The Bailey House, photo by Nancy Bannick
"The Bailey House" was home to Edward Bailey and family for 45 years and is considered the most historic in Wailuku. Edward and his wife, Caroline, left Boston and arrived in Honolulu in 1837 to serve as missionaries based in Wailuku three years later. Bailey went on to become one of the first sugar planters on Maui and became a principal in the Wailuku Sugar Company.
The house is on the Hawaii State and National Registers of Historic Places. The Maui Historical Society has operated the home as a musuem since 1957.
