The Wailuku Court House was built in 1907 with a building material new to the islands at that time: hollow concrete block.

To make concrete block look like basaltic lava rock, they used blue tinted concrete and wooden molds modeled after the desired texture of rusticated basaltic stones.

The builing was wired for electricity before Wailuku had a power plant to supply the energy.

The building served as the courthouse until the late 1980s when the County of Maui moved in. In the 1993, a restoration project by Spencer Mason Architects, inc. restored the interior woodwork and exterior finishes.
