More About the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium
Background:
The City and County contracted the Army Corps of Engineers to assess ocean conditions and develop estimates and plans for constructing the beaches after demolition.  This study was completed in 2008.  The numbers above include the Army Corps of Engineering estimates using the second least expensive alternative.

A study to be prepared by Will Chee Planners is expected in 2009 and should include updated cost estimates for demolition, construction, permitting, facade reconstruction, and dredging.

The Army Corps of Engineers study was for alternatives to the memorial ONLY.  Therefore, the restoration numbers above are the costs of the project prior to the halt of the project in 2005. Inflation costs of $1.4 million were added to the restoration costs. The "demolish the pool" estimates do not reflect inflation since 2005 for the 2005 estimates.
