When the idea for the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium was conceived, the vision for Hawaii was to host the beautiful architecture and amenities seen in throughout international resort destinations like Spain, France and Greece.
In 2005, the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu fulfilled his campaign promises to save the $6.5 million dedicated to complete the pool's restoration. Since then, the restoration and maintenance has stopped and demolition by neglect is in full force.
Meanwhile, international resort destinations continue to showcase their ocean fed saltwater pools to the delight of visitors and residents alike.
Here are some of those pools and links to their caretakers.

Fleishhacker Pool
San Francisco, CA
Hawaii is fortunate to have a climate and warm ocean water for it's ocean water Wakiki War Memorial Natatorium. Other U.S. cities with similar pools had the massive expense of heating the pools that the Waikiki pool does not.
One San Francisco pool, the Fleishhacker Pool, remained a popular venue despite its high cost of heating the water. A major storm damaged the pools drainage system which caused its intial closure. Read more about the Fleishhacker Pool here.
