About the terms "Memorial" and "Preservation"

"Waikiki War Memorial"

The Waikiki War Memorial was commissioned by Act 15 of the Territorial Legislature of Hawaii which listed  two requirements for the Memorial:

1 - Its location  (where it was built in 1927 and remains today)

2 - That it "shall include a swimming course of at least 100 meters"

Therefore, the Waikiki War Memorial must be defined as the swimming venue located at its original and present-day location. 

By definition, the Waikiki War Memorial is not "preserved" by:

- Moving it

- rebuilding it elsewhere

- demolishing the swimming course
