Late 1970s photo by Nancy Bannick from the Historic Hawaii Foundation Archives

Honolulu's City Hall is a mixture of styles, mostly Spanish, derived from the early Renaissance. The building has the great central court, open to the sky, and grand staircase of medieval Italian town hall.
The carved stone work on the columns, balconies and entrances is the work of Italian sculptor and stone expert, Mario Valdastri. Note also the detailing of the doors, door knocker sand chandeliers.
Although city government long ago outgrew the building, it continues to house the Mayor, City Council and principal staff agencies.
