Historic Hawai‘i Foundation has digitized and published an online resource listing historic homes enrolled in the Honolulu historic property tax exemption program. The list of historic residences will serve as a research tool and resource for many stakeholders, including property owners, government agencies, heritage visitors, and those who love Hawaii’s historic places.

Five Sites Added To Hawai‘i’s Most Endangered Historic Places List
Historic Hawai‘i Foundation has announced five additions to the list of the Most Endangered Historic Places in Hawai‘i. The annual list is compiled by HHF in cooperation with the State Historic Preservation Division and HONOLULU magazine. The 2011 additions are published in HONOLULU’s November issue.
Heritage Houses Workshop Series
to be Offered Spring 2012
Historic Hawai‘i Foundation has developed the Heritage Houses Workshop Series to assist homeowners gain practical and in-depth knowledge on how to repair, maintain, and preserve older homes. Highly-trained professionals will provide information on issues to consider when planning a repair job; guidelines and standards appropriate to the character-defining features of the house; and instruction on proper techniques and materials to be used for repairs and ongoing maintenance.
Honolulu Commission Recommends Changes to Preservation Tax Exemptions
The Honolulu Real Property Tax Advisory Commission has completed a systematic review of the City’s real property tax system’s classes, 53 types of exemptions, credits, and minimum property tax. Among its many recommendations, the Commission proposes changes to the property tax exemptions for preservation of historic residential properties.

Historic Hawai‘i Foundation is accepting nominations now through February 10 for the 2012 Preservation Honor Awards. The Honor Awards recognize exceptional preservation projects and programs from across the state. The Preservation Honor Awards are Hawaii’s highest recognition of preservation projects that perpetuate, rehabilitate, restore or interpret the state’s architectural, archaeological and/or cultural heritage.
